The article introduces the scientific and social contribution of prof. Dr. Ing. Václav Verunáč, the important figure of the first half of the 20th century. He was a lecturer of social politics and technical economy at the Czech Technical University in Prague. Verunáč was one of the main promoters of the scientific organization of labour and belongs to the most significant world personalities of scientific organization of labour, such as Frederick Winslow Taylor or Frank Bunker Gilbreth. The specific feature of Verunáč’s approach to the scientific organization of labour was an ethical notion of man. Verunáč promoted the scientific organization of labour with regard to Czechoslovakian situation. The very name laborethics is formed by the combination of two words: labour and ethics. During his life, he was active in numerous organizations dealing with economic planning, scientific organization of work, regulated economy and the question of employees. He was a co-founder of the Institute for Technical Industrial Economy at the Masaryk Academy of Labour, the Permanent Committee for the Study and Preparation of Economic Plan, the Czechoslovak Society for Systematic Economy, the International Committee for Scientific Organization, the Czechoslovak National Committee for Scientific Organization, Taylor Society in New York, Institut International des Relations Industrielles in Haag, Comité National d' Organisation Française de Paris and other institutions. Verunáč also significantly participated in the organization of the first International Congress for the Scientific Organization of Labour, which took place in Prague, 1924. At the end of the World War I, when economy and interpersonal relations were disintegrated, the newly established Czechoslovak Republic had to consolidate this situation. By his ideas and thinking, Prof. Václav Verunáč wanted to contribute to the solution of these difficult problems.
