A Thermal Neutron Detector Based on Silicon Sensor with Extended Surface Area
Original language description
This paper was written to present the development steps for a thermal neutron detector based on a silicon sensor. It contains a discussion concerning different kinds of neutron converters which are possible for use in combination with silicon and also deals with different approaches to the deposition of the converter. A significant part of this work is dedicated to a description of the preparatory and production phase of a neutron silicon sensor with an extended surface area. A study is also presented in relation to the dependency of the neutron detection efficiency on different converters and their thicknesses. In order to increase the neutron detection efficiency surface area of the silicon sensor is extended, lithography is used and the effects of lithography on the energy resolution and neutron detection efficiency are shown.
