Combustible constructions in the nearest neighborhood of buildings can be a possible danger when fire occurs inside the building and, after glazing of openings crashes, the fire spreads and radiant heat starts affecting exterior. This article describes afirst part of full-scale experiments dealing with fire (or flame) spread on the exterior combustible constructions. Performed research wanted to clarify the importance of flame spread along the horizontal constructions made of wood, namely terraces adjacent to building façade that are performed mainly along dwelling but also at apartment houses. When fire occurs in the interior of the building, these constructions can ignite because of the radiant heat and there is a danger that can cause the flame spread along the façade, if that is combustible, or can extend fire to another fire compartment (another terraced house or another flat).
