An Alternative Proof of the Kronecker/Morse Normal Form
Original language description
The Morse normal form for linear systems (or the Kronecker normal form for singular matrix pencils) is a deep result and a useful tool of linear system theory. This paper presents an alternative proof of this advanced result that makes use of the Smith normal form over the ring of proper rational functions. The relationship of these two classical normal forms is of interest as is the proof itself, which is entirely constructive and describes the sequence of operations needed to determine the Kronecker/Morse normal form.
