Distinct signatures of loss of consciousness in focal impaired awareness versus tonic-clonic seizures

  • Original language description

Juan, Gorska, Kozma et al. show that impaired awareness during focal to bilateral tonic-clonic seizures is accompanied by increases in markers of cortical activation and neuronal firing rate throughout the cortex. These changes contrast with the sleep-like cortical activity observed during focal impaired awareness seizures.
