INFLUENCE OF MODEL PARAMETERS ON PIN POWER DISTRIBUTION DUE TO FUEL ASSEMBLY BOW

  • Original language description

One of the main approaches to ensuring nuclear safety in neutron computations is the consideration of engineering factors. These factors define the margin of individual parameters in the power distribution within the core, ensuring that they remain within safety limits. The limits must be respected in the design of the fuel assembly and core, and monitored throughout the fuel cycle. The resulting engineering factor consists of many components; one component of this set is investigated in this report, specifically the evaluation of fuel assembly bowing or displacement and the subsequent impact on power distribution in the edge rows of fuel pins. Understanding this effect is crucial due to its significant influence on power distribution, as even a slight displacement of a fuel assembly and the resulting change in the water-to-uranium ratio near the fuel rods can lead to a noticeable change in the power output of the individual rods. This study primarily focuses on the bowing of selected PWR fuel assemblies 16x16. Additionally, it examines the impact of initial parameters, emphasizing the influence of surrounding properties, specifically the moderator (temperature, boric acid concentration, density, etc.). Results from this study can be used as input parameters for special detailed safety analysis.
