Tests of the Personal Respiratory Protective Equipment using Radioactive Aerosols
Original language description
Filtration half-masks are one of the cheapest commercially available personal protection equipment for a respiratory tract. All kinds of these products have to meet the requirements of the Czech Standard No. ČSN EN 149+A1. This paper summarizes retaining properties testing results of personal protective equipment Serge CN P3 V at the flow rates 25, 31, 38, 44, and 50 cm/s (the flow rate of 50 cm/s corresponds to intensive breathing) in the environment of radioactive aerosol with aerosol particles geometry mean diameters of 80 nm and 190 nm. Penetration properties of materials were tested at SUJCHBO v. v. i. in a radon-aerosol chamber of 10 m3 volume via two methods. The first one is based on EER measurement, the second one is based on aerosol particles concentration (AC) measurement. Both methods measurements were performed in front of and behind the tested sample. From the testing results comparison it follows, that aerosol particles penetration (regardless their possible combination with radon decay products particles) is about 60 % higher than radon decay products (characterized by EER) penetration. The paper was worked out on the basis of the results of the project No. VF 20112015013: “Research of Modern Methods of Detection and Identification of Hazardous CBRN Substances and Materials, Methods of Hazard Reduction and decontamination; Research of modern Methods for Personal Protection and Elements of Critical Infrastructure”, supported by Ministry of Interior of the Czech Republic.
