Surface Decontamination of Building Materials Using Decontaminating Solution in the Form of Foam
Original language description
While solving the research project No. VF2011201513, supported by Ministry of the Interior CR, a numerous experiments studying ways of contamination and decontamination of building materials have been provided. The paper presents the results of the efficiency studies of the decontaminating solution applied by a foaming device. Various porous building materials commonly used in urban indoors were tested in this study. Surfaces of untreated concrete tiles, ceramic tiles, glazed tiles and adjusted particle boards were decontaminated.he surfaces of materials were contaminated by a short-term radionuclide (24Na). The contaminant was applied on tested surfaces by spraying an aqueous solution using a nebulizer. The level of surface contamination was determined by Alpha-Betacontamination monitor RadEye AB 100 producer: Thermo Scientifics, USA. The decontamination process was based on the surface cleaning by applying a decontaminating solution in the foam form. The decontaminating solution was applied on the surface using a foaming device PZ 9. After the exposure the contaminated foam was removed from the surface using a vacuum cleaner ASA 32L, producer: Metabo, Germany. After foam removal the surface was rinsed with water and cleaned with a vacuum cleaner. Following decontamination solutions were applied RDS-2000, ODS-5, MUCASOL, a mixture of citric and salicylic acids and a mixture of water and a dish detergent. To assess the effectiveness of using both decontamination procedures and decontamination solutions the decontamination efficiency values was used, defined as the proportion of the removed activity and the original activity in percentage, It has been found that the decontamination efficiency values of individual decontamination solutions ranges from 63.0 to 99.9%, This value is depending to decontaminated material and type of decontamination solution .
