Personal Dosimetry at NORM Workplaces
Original language description
Czech legacy defines conditions for categorization of workplaces and requires measuring of specific parameters at NORM and 'radon' workplaces. The supervision of the whole process in the Czech Republic is in the competence of the State Office for Nuclear Safety (SONS). An effective dose of workers can be determined based on the monitoring of the working environment and time spent there. In some cases, the indoor climate, ventilation conditions and type of work are more complicated, so it is necessary to determine effective doses by using individual personnel dosimeters for each worker. Currently, commercially available personnel dosimeter allows measuring of external gamma irradiation and internal irradiation caused by radon decay products inhalation and by inhalation of long-lived radionuclides emitted alpha particles uranium-radium decay series.
