The Protection of Surface Radioactive Contamination Detectors
Original language description
The poster presents the possibility of hand measuring devices protection against radioactive aerosol particles contamination. Measuring probes can be protected by a suitable type of protective foils. The foil ensures the equilibrium between the possibility of surface alfa detection and, at the same time, the sufficient protection of a detector against contamination. Several kinds of protection foils were tested using alpha-spectrometry measuring in a different measuring geometry and with various types of spot radioactive sources (e.g. Unat, Am-241, Pu-239). The protective foils were chosen based on the theoretical calculation by help of data from ICRU report No. 49. Due to the results, it is possible to determine suitable protective foils and measuring geometry that could be used during emergency surface contamination detection.
