Thermal Insulation Characteristics of NBC Protective Clothing

  • Original language description

Personal protective equipment (PPE) against CBRN agents are designed to provide perfect barrier between the user‘s body and harmful ambient environment. However, the high level of protection significantly influences the body heat exchange and thus may cause considerable heat strain to the responder. Thermal insulation and evaporative resistance are substantial characteristics of the PPE affecting the heat strain of the PPE user. We measured those characteristics using Newton thermal manikin on four types of protective ensembles. The same types of protective ensembles were examined for inducing heat strain with a group of volunteers performing physical activity in climatic chamber.
