Influence of Processing Conditions on Properties of PVAL Films Modified with Collagen Hydrolysate
Original language description
Polyvinylalcohol (PVAL) films have a relatively wide range of applications particulary in packaging due to their solubility in water and biodegradability. The study is focused on the modification of PVAL with collagen hydrolysate, which is the reprocessed waste product from the leather industry. This modification has been found to be very suitable for blends for the blow extruded film production. Collagen hydrolysate enters chemical reactions with polymer and glycerol used as plasticiser. The modification has small effects on mechanical properties of films and induces their much better and uniform solubility. Biodegradation of the modified film is more efficient than biodegradation of PVAL without collagen hydrolysate as well.
