The tanning process itself generates by-products. One of the chief requirements in successfully establishing enzymatic hydrolysis is the marketability of the proteineous product, which depends on the quality and the price of the hydrolysate. In order tomarket the resulting products, successfully the operating costs of the enzymatic hydrolysis have to be kept at a minimum.
