Influence of different compounding ways and conditions on the montmorillonite exfoliation in polymer matrix
Original language description
The problem of polymer nanocomposite preparation can be divided in several steps. The first one is preparation (or choice) of appropriate nanofiller. Nowadays the most often used type of nanofiller is sodium montmorillonite (MMT Na+), which can be modified by intercalation or co-intercalation, (i.e. simultaneous action of octadecylamine or octadecylamine/stearic acid) in different ratios by ion-dipole method. The next possibility is using of commercially produced types of nanofiller (for example Cloisites). The amount of MMT Na+ is calculated as 5 wt % to the weight of PP. The way of mixing with polymer matrix is as important as the nanofiller preparation. The used way of compounding also influences the result degree of MMT exfoliation. In our work polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polypropylene were used as polymer matrix. PVC with Cloisite or polypropylene (PP) and modified MMT were mixed on a one screw KO Kneader Buss. In the case of PP matrix maleic-anhydride-modified PP (PPMa) was adde
