THE INTERRELATIONS BETWEEN SUPERMOLECULAR STRUCTURE, PROPERTIES AND DEGRADABILITY OF ISOTACTIC POLY(1-BUTENE)

  • Original language description

This work is focused on the interrelations between supermolecular structure, properties and degradability of isotactic poly(1-butene) (PB-1). The most important evolution in PB-1 is a peculiar phase transformation from form II to form I after crystallization from melt. This phase transformation can be followed using calorimetry, wide-angle X-ray scattering and mechanical testing where changes in dependence on annealing conditions and time are observed. The effect of processing on resulting supermolecular structure is proven on injection-molded and extruded specimens using tensile testing. Because of high sensitivity of PB-1 to photodegradation, significant effects on thermal properties and the phase transformation is observed. Multiscale characterization is performed using calorimetric measurements, infra-red spectroscopy, rheology, X-ray scattering, microscopic techniques and tensile testing to describe consequences of photodegradation.
