Electrical and thermal conductivity of carbon nanotubes based silicone nanocomposites

  • Original language description

The effects of ionic surfactants on the separation and distribution of multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) in silicone matrix were investigated. The MWCNTs were dispersed in an aqueous suspension containing an anionic surfactant DBSA (dodecylbenzene sulfonic acid) with different technological methods. Homogeneity and morphology were analyzed by TEM and SEM microscopy. Electrical and thermal conductivity of silicone nanocomposites filled with unmodified MWCNT and modified MWCNT/DBSA were studied. On thebasis of obtained results the electrical percolation threshold was determined for both nanocomposite systems. The lower electrical percolation thresholdwas observed for composite with unmodified filler (around 1 wt. %). The modification of MWCNT/DBSA increased c up to 3 wt.%. The observed enhancement of c can be explained by capsulation of each MWCNT by DBSA. The incorporation of unmodified MWCNT as well as modified MWCNT/DBSA to silicone increases the thermal conductivity of matrix by
