Microhardness of modified polypropylene
Original language description
The submitted article presents the assessment of mechanical properties (microhardness) of the surface layer of modified polypropylene. The principle of the radiation process is the ability of the high energy radiation to produce reactive cationts, anoints and free radicals in the material. The industrial application of the radiation process on polymer and composites includes polymerization, crosslink-linking and degradation. The polymer additional cross-linking influences the surface nano and micro layers in the way comparable to metals during the thermal and chemical-thermal treatments (e.g. surface hardening, cementation). By the morphology changes and the partial cross-linking the PP obtain an excellent friction quality, wear and thermal resistanceof the surface layer. The surface layer of polymer material such as polypropylene is modified by ? ? radiation. After the polypropylene is subjected to radiation, changes of the surface layer at applied load are observed.
