Preparation and Supramolecular Properties of Ligands with (2-(1-Adamantyl)Ethyl)Imidazolium Binding Site
Original language description
As it has been recently demonstrated, adamantane based cationic ligands display ultrahigh affinity towards cucurbit uril. Our ongoing research aimed at describing of supramolecular binding properties of diverse adamantane-based ligands led us to preparea series of imidazolium salts with adamantane moiety linked to the imidazolium cation with ethylene spacer. Commercial 1-adamantylacetic acid was transformed via sequential reduction, Appel reaction and nucleophilic substitution to imidazole intermediate. Final quarternization was performed following previously published procedure. Complexes of prepared imidazolium salts with CB6, CB7 and -cyclodextrin were studied in solution as well as in the gas phase. Inter alia, in the comparison with the adamantylmethylimidazolium, the adamantylethylimidazolium binding site was found to have slightly higher affinity towards CB7 with association constant in order of 1012?1013 M-1.
