Electromagnetic Shielding of Elastomers Containing Particles with Enhanced Wettability
Original language description
Magnetorheological elastomers (MREs) have become a target of many scientific and industrial activities recently. However, for the implementation of such innovative materials it is necessary to fully understand the microstructure interactions for the tailoring of materials towards a specific application. In this study, MREs based on the carbonyl iron particles in the silicone matrix were fabricated. In order to enhance the interfacial adhesion, the particles were modified with a thin layer of tetraethoxysilane. Two types of MREs were prepared – isotropic and anisotropic. It was found that anisotropic MREs exhibited superior electromagnetic shielding capability in the microwave frequency range when compared to their isotropic analogues.
