Dialdehyde Cellulose as Crosslinking Agent for Poly(vinyl alcohol) Hydrogels
Original language description
Dialdehyde cellulose (DAC) obtained from α-cellulose periodate oxidation was employed as a crosslinking agent for poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA). Two catalyst systems (diluted hydrochloric or sulfuric acid) and the role of pH-stabilized DAC solution age (1, 14 and 28 days old) on PVA/DAC hydrogels material properties were studied by solid-state NMR, XRD and in the terms of network parameters and mechanical properties. The DAC crosslinking potential was studied in broad concentration range and found to be considerably better than that of common crosslinking agent glutaraldehyde, especially at very low concentrations.
