    The Morphology and Amount Influence of Mineral Flame Retardant Microparticles on Visco-elastic and Flame Retardancy Properties of Propylene-Based Elastomer

    Magnesium hydroxide (MDH) is a halogen-free flame retardant with high thermal stability. However, to be an effective flame retardant filler, high loadings up to 65% are required. This may cause detrimental effects on both rheological and mechanical properties of produced composites. In this work, random polypropylene (PP) and propylene-based elastomer (PBE) were compounded with two types of MDH at 0, 15, 35, and 55 wt.% loading. Mechanical properties as tensile yield stress, elongation at brake and flexural modulus of polymer composites were measured in comparison with the neat polymer blend. The influence of particle size, concentration and morphology of filler MDH on the rheological behaviour of the prepared PP-PBE/MDH composites were studied. Moreover, rate of flame spread and flammability were characterized of the prepared composites by ISO 5660-1.
