PREPARATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF MODIFIED PIEZOCOMPOSITE MATERIALS FOR PIEZOFOAMS

  • Original language description

Piezoelectric materials are widely used for various applications. According to the desired application, materials of suitable chemical, mechanical and physical properties must be used [1]. One promising material is poly (vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP), which is a copolymer based on poly (vinylidene fluoride) and exhibits piezoelectric properties. To further enhance the properties of the polymer, piezoceramics with promising piezoelectric capability such as strontium titanate (ST) are used [2].This work is focused on the modification, preparation and characterization of PVDF-HFP/ST composite materials for subsequent physical foaming in laboratory autoclave. Strontium titanate was used in a neat and modified version. Modification was carried out using surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization resulting in a thin polymer coating made of poly(2,2,2-Trifluoroethyl methacrylate). Finally, samples of prepared materials were foamed in a laboratory autoclave using nitrogen gas as a foaming agent and fundamental characterization of such foams will be performed.
