Economic Value Added (EVA) as an indicator of new created value for the owners of the company is an important success criterion of companies´ activities. The cost of capital is one of several factors influencing this value. The goal of the paper is:-to explain in which way can be EVA influenced by the cost of capital, -to introduce methods for calculation the cost of capital and to point out the difficulties associated with using the individual methods,-to compare the possibilities for using individualmethods for calculation in the countries with different level of the capital market development (the Czech Republic, India, the USA).

Ekonomická přidaná hodnota (EVA) jako ukazatel výkonnosti podniku, je ovlivněna mnoha faktory. Jedním z významných faktorů jsou nepochybně náklady na kapitál, který podnik pro financování svých aktivit používá. Cílem příspěvku je vysvětlit, jakým způsobem náklady na kapitál tento ukazatel ovlivňují, představit různé přístupy k jejich vyčíslení a poukázat na problémy s jednotlivými metodami spojené. Dále porovnat možnosti využití jednotlivých metod v zemích s různou úrovní rozvinutosti kapitálového trhu(Česká republika, USA a Indie).
