The evolution of Eco-Industrial Parks with Respect to Social Capital
Original language description
Human beings have always expressed the need to interact with their peers and form social networks. These networks have been observed at intra- and inter-organisational levels, so they have become an object of study within economics. An important benefitof networks is the foster of social capital, an overlooked aspect when planning eco-industrial parks. In this paper, we propose an evolutionary model of industrial symbiosis correlated with the development of social capital within an industrial ecosystem. Social capital is viewed as the driving force that can help develop networks. Beside this form of capital, local circumstances and actors trigger the development of industrial symbiosis.
