The paper deals with bankruptcy in the Czech Republic. The aim of this article is to analyze the development of this negative phenomenon in the Czech economy in the period 2008-2011 in relation to changes in economic environment and the effect of the newbankruptcy law. The research was based on an analysis of available data from Czech economy and a questionnaire survey among representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises in the Czech Republic. There was used the statistical method Chi-squared test for the evaluation of questionnaire survey. The analysis showed the growing number of bankruptcies in the reporting period. Based on the evaluation of the questionnaire survey, a moderately strong relationship was found between the proposals brought by bankruptcy and the number of creditors acting in these proceedings.
