    The aim of the publication is to acquaint the reader with the role of tourism in the countries of the Visegrad group. The intention was to create a text that represents a solid fundament of comprehensive information to tourism in the broader context of economic sectors, based on the relevant facts, which follow the development of knowledge, including the addition of individual case studies of tourism within the Visegrad countries. In order to fulfil a predetermined target, text of publication is dividedinto four main parts. The first part explains the importance of strategic management in tourism and also highlights the importance of competitive strategy and competitive advantage as being part of strategic management. The second part contains basic information about tourism in national economy - key figures followed by analysis of inbound and outbound tourism, transportation and the last chapter is devoted to current problems in the field of tourism and tourism services in individual
