The positive impact of entrepreneurial activity on regional development and growth is broadly agreed issue in scholarly literature. Many authors stress the crucial role of new firms in regional competitiveness, employment and technological progress. However, the distribution of economic activity indicates disparities between regions. Consequently, the determinants that influence new firm formation are in the centre of both, research and political discussion. It is possible to identify two wide streams of research dedicated to new firm formation - the first one explores decision-making process of potential entrepreneurs, the second identifies determinants of new firm formation from spatial perspective. The second approach is used in this paper. There are several theoretical concepts related to determinants of new firm formation.
