Additive manufacturing and 3D printing technology have been around for decades, but their applications and capabilities rapidly expand. A thorough analysis of additive manufacturing and 3D printing technology is reviewed, focusing on recent advancements made by several researchers and industries. The paper explores the current state of the technology and its potential applications in the future as Industry 4.0 continues to advance. Challenges that can hinder the technology from reaching its full potential are also discussed
