The Impact of Social Media on Consumer Behaviour and Its Effect on GDP Growth in India

  • Original language description

This study explores the relationship between social media-driven consumer behavior and its impact on GDP growth in India. With the increasing penetration of digital platforms, social media has emerged as a significant factor influencing consumer preferences, spending habits, and potentially overall economic growth. By analyzing secondary data, this research aims to identify the association between social media engagement and consumer spending, examine the role of platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp in shaping purchasing decisions, and investigate the correlation between increased social media use and GDP growth. Although the study finds strong positive correlations between these variables, it acknowledges that correlation does not imply causation. Consequently, the findings presented should be interpreted with caution, as the data analysis used here does not statistically confirm causal relationships. Nevertheless, evidence from industry trends and consumer surveys indicates that social media is closely linked with economic activities such as e-commerce growth and consumer engagement in India, thereby suggesting its important role in the nation's digital transformation and economic landscape.
