Using Information and Communication Technologies to support Human Resource Management

  • Original language description

The rapid development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has had a fundamental impact on human resource management (HRM) practices. The aim of this paper is to identify specific ICTs currently being used in HRM. Crucially, it addresses the challenges of data security and the adaptability of employees to new technologies. For HRM practitioners who want to maximise the benefits of ICT integration, it is essential to keep abreast of technological innovations. This research uses a qualitative methodology and collects data through semi-structured interviews with human resource practitioners, primarily managers involved in strategic HRM. The paper applies thematic analysis to interpret patterns in overcoming barriers of ICT in HRM. Main measures to overcome barriers are based on providing extensive support from project teams, conducting thorough feasibility analyses, selecting experienced implementers, and maintaining open communication with employees. We highlight the crucial aspect of strategic planning and aligning the organizational strategy with supportive approach to implement technology in HRM.
