    A Sustainable Materials for Footwear Industry: Designing biodegradable shoes.

    Approximately 40 different materials can be used in the manufacturing of one shoe. While the major pollutants in the footwear industry are leather, synthetic materials and textiles. The paper deals with the current topic of sustainable behavior and materials in footwear manufacturing. The aim of the paper is to map out the various materials used in shoe production, also to demonstrate design of sustainable manufacturing including the economic background. The case study shows the possibilities of using modern biodegradable materials and technologies, calculates costs and suggests possibilities for sustainable production. Keywords: biodegradable materials, footwear industry, circular economy, sustainability, design.
