Acoustic Source Localization Based on Beamforming
Original language description
Sound sources can be localized and analysed using phased microphone arrays. Beamforming is a method for processing microphone array data to produce images that represent the distribution of the acoustic source strength. It is an imaging technique that applies to continuous or discrete source distribution. A microphone array can be designed to be more sensitive to the sound coming from one or more specific directions than to sound coming from other directions. Different array types can be used dependingon the equipment available, on other constraints of the experiment on the desired spatial resolution and dynamic range of the sound source maps. To improve beamforming recognition possibilities it is necessary to learn how to handle these algorithms correctly and how to set their parameters.
