THE SEMG BIOFEEDBACK: CONTROLLING LEGO EV3 BY ARDUINO UNO WITH SEMG

  • Original language description

The primary aim of this article is to create biofeedback using surface electromyography, which can devote audio and visual stimuli. For this purpose, the simple robot from Lego EV3 was created, which can be controlled by muscle tension. This proposal of biofeedback includes the connection between Arduino Uno and Lego EV3. In the first part of the paper, the methods and devices, which was used in this article, were described. There were used the robotic kit Lego EV3 for creation of a simple robot. The Arduino UNO with SpikerShield board developed by BackyardBrains is responsible for measuring surface electromyography (sEMG). Next chapter is devoted to creating a connection between both technologies. The connection was made in the programming language C#. The objective of biofeedback is to triggers the robot using muscle tension. After muscle tension, the robot starts moving forward, and muscle release causes stopping the robot. Also, the graphical interface was designed for easy control. The last part of the paper describes the possibility of using this biofeedback in rehabilitation.
