Modeling and identification of a time-delay heat exchanger plant

  • Original language description

The so-called anisochronic modeling principle followed by the determination of model parameters values for a looped thermal plant with the water-air heat exchanger are given to the reader in this chapter. This modeling framework is characterized by the inclusion of all significant delays in the mathematical model formed by delay-differential equations instead of habitual and more complex partial differential ones. Standard finite-dimensional lumped models with input-output delays cannot sufficiently handle the plant dynamics due to the existence of inner (state) delays caused by the looping. The parameters identification part consists of two steps. First, static characteristics give rise to values of heat transmission coefficients and other parameters affecting a steady state. Second, delays and masses are estimated from dynamic (step) responses via least mean squares minimization of the characteristics error.
