Chronic diseases and their correlation with reconditioning-relaxation and movement activities among the inhabitants of Slovakia
Original language description
The aim of the study was to determine the effect of reconditioning-relaxation and movement activities on the prevalence of chronic diseases. In addition, we also studied the occurrence of specific chronic diseases in relation to reconditioning-relaxation and movement activities. The sample is represented by 735 adult citizens of the Slovak Republic (146 men and 589 women) from all 8 regions of Slovakia. Average age of respondents is 37.79±13.6 years. A self-administered online questionnaire was used. Data were analyzed by SPSS Statistics. The relationship between chronic diseases and reconditioning-relaxation and movements activities was verified with the Spearman correlation coefficient and by the Chi-square test. When analyzing the correlation between individual chronic diseases and physical activity, the Cramer's V coefficient was use Significance 0.05. Respondents who go more often to the sea (r--,097**, p=0.008), to ski (r-,078*, p=0.034) to the sauna (r=-,119**, p=0.001) and who are engaged in physical activities (r= -.108**; p=0.03) are less likely diagnosed by chronic diseases. Respondents who perform physical activity significantly less are suffering from high blood pressure (r=0.112, p=0.026), back pain (r=0.119, p=0.015) and respiratory disease (r=0.132, p=0.005). Slovaks engaged in physical activities such as skiing, taking saunas and going to the sea, have a lower prevalence of chronic diseases. Therefore, we recommend the mentioned activities as the prevention of chronic non-transmitted diseases. Classical massage is not related to the prevention of monitored diseases. At the same time, the study confirms that it is necessary to educate and motivate people diagnosed with chronic respiratory diseases, back pain and high blood pressure to engage in light physical activities.
