RFID - A new tool for small fauna spatial distribution monitoring and biodiversity preservation of southern Altai, East Kazakhstan
Original language description
Present climate change and regionally-associated environmental transformation impose new requirements for detailed biotic diversity documentation and its long-term conservation. Systematic and exact monitoring of a seasonal as well as annual spatial distribution and a species variety of small fauna, mammals as well as insect, in its natural environment is one of the key issues of modern and multidisciplinary-oriented biodiversity preservation strategy that can contribute significantly to the Altai biodiversity protection and the local environmental risk management. Following the results of pilot studies in Central Europe (the White Carpathians), the RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technologies have proven to be a most useful and accurate tool forin-site documentation of small animals (vertebrate and invertebrate) that also provides a major potential in the frame of preservation of endangered ecosystems.
