Geoarchaeology of "pre-glacial" occupation sites: the Siberian - North American teleconnections
Original language description
No consensus about the timing of the initial Palaeo-American migration from north-eastern Asia, the level of technology and the associated typological variety of stone tools the early inhabitants of the continent might have brought with them. Location ofearly sites may be problematic if deeply-buried in unusual Pleistocene-age geological settings. The ?preglacial? geoarchaeological concept was established at the Palaeo-Indian occupation localities at Calgary, Alberta, Canada, referring to in situ occupation horizons below the Last Glacial Lake Calgary lake and moraine deposits (-25m below ground) (Chlachula 1990). Quaternary geology reconnaissance approach. Geological context of the ?pre-glacial? sites may be a most relevant palaeographical and geo-chronological proxy indicator of spatial-temporal configuration of regional glacial advances and ice-limits in North America and Siberia
