Simple method for characterization of rubber fracture in practice

  • Original language description

The fracture of rubber-like materials is mostly an undesirable process that reduces the service life of rubber components dramatically, whereas the fracture behavior and durability of rubber are determined by its structure. The aim of work was to study the fracture behavior of standardized rubber compounds with different fracture toughness based on natural rubber (NR) and styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) realized due to various oncentrations of carbon black and sulfur. The fracture behavior has been analyzed using different testing methods. Influence of structure on fracture phenomena has been determined due to description of fracture surfaces by optical microscopy. As application, we introduce a simple method for characterization of the fracture in dependence on rubber compound?s composition for efficient using in practice.
