Influence of Surface Treatment Method on the Mechanical Properties of Hemp Fiber Reinforced Polyamide 1010 Biomass Composites

  • Original language description

For the purpose of developing the new engineering materials such as structural materials and tribomaterials based on all plants-derived materials, the influence of surface treatment method on the mechanical properties of hemp fiber (HF) reinforced polyamide 1010 (HF/PA1010) composites was investigated. Hemp fibers were surface-treated by ureido silane coupling agent in four different methods: a) dry process using laboratory stirrer, L (L-dry), b) wet process using L(L-wet), c) dry process using planetary centrifugal mixer, P (P-dry) and d) wet process using P(P-wet). Surface-treated HF mixed PA1010 composites were extruded by a twin screw extruder and injection-molded. Their mechanical properties such as tensile, bending, Izod impact, hardness and sliding wear properties were evaluated. It was found that the mechanical properties such as tensile strength and bending modulus improve with the changing of surface treatment method. And P-wet method, which is the wet process using planetary
