Iron Oxide Nanoparticles and Polymer Composites for Magnetic Hyperthermia
Original language description
Silicone magnetic composite was developed for application as a heat mediator in arterial embolization hyperthermia. The material provides simultaneously the ability for secure embolization of tumor blood vessels, high heating rate in alternating magneticfields allowed for application in magnetic hyperthermia and radiopaque property enabling the detection of its position by means of angiography. The composite represents a silicone elastomer matrix with uniformly dispersed iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles and potassium iodide micro-crystals. The silicone elastomer is formed by the reaction of silicones with vinyl- and hydro- side groups which is catalyzed by the chloroplatinic acid. The reaction has an induction period during which the composition stays liquid that makes possible to deliver it to the tumor blood vessels. After the induction period soft emboli is formed causing the occlusion of the tumor blood vessels. Material obtained guarantee rapid heating (tens of seconds) in alter
