Core-shell Magnetic Biocompatible Particles and Their Magnetorheological Performance

  • Original language description

Magnetorheological suspensions are liquids, whose rheological parametres can be controlled via application of an external magnetic field. Such two phase systems are commonly composed of magnetic particles dispersed in a non-magnetic liquid medium. In theabsence of an external magnetic field, the suspensions behave as Newtonian or slightly pseudoplatic fluids, however, after the application of an external magnetic field, they start to act as Bingham fluids. This beahaviour is highly demanded in many practical applications. One of the potential application of this transistion from liquid-like to a solid-like state has been proposed also in biomedicine for embolization of a blood vessels or for inducing arterial embolization hyperthermia in cancers and in tumors. In this study, carbonyl iron particles were sucesfully coated with gelatine and magnetorheological performance of their silicone-oil suspensions was investigated. Magnetorheological behaviour simulates the embolization process,
