Nanostructured filtration materials
Original language description
Nanostructures prepared from nanofibers are gradually becoming increasingly demanded materials for applications in various industrial branches connected with catalysis, environment protection (air filtration, waste water treatment, sound absorption), in biological engineering, electronics (battery separators, electrode materials), etc. Procedures permitting to prepare homogeneous nanofiber structures of the desired morphology and properties by employing a suitable combination of variables during the electrospinning process and consequent exploitations in air and liquid filtration are presented. Nanostructures applied in air filtration exhibit excellent filtration efficiency first of all in separation of ultrafine particles from the polluted air. Compared are model predicted and experimentally measured values of filtration efficiency (in accordance with requests of EN 1822) for elimination of ultrafine particles in sizes 20 through 400 nm which are in excellent compliance. It has been proved higher filtration efficiency and/or lower values of pressure drops of filters based on polymeric nanofibers in comparison with glass fiber materials at consistent conditions of experimental measurements. Strong interception of influenza virus on the surface of nanofibers has been proved too. Application of nanostructured materials for liquid filtration requests additional filter reinforcing, rather poor mechanical properties of nanofibers being the reason. Measurements of flow, filtration efficiency for bacteria separation and application for waste water filtration modulus have been evaluated too.
