Biodegradable polylactide composites with improved thermal stability for food packaging
Original language description
This work presents development of biodegradable polylactide (PLA)/inorganic filler (CaCO3) based composites for rigid packaging applications. The crucial attention was paid to the optimilization of the composition properties towards its enhanced shape stability at elevated temperatures and mechanical properties – flexibility. The properties of PLA (Ingeo 2003D, Natureworks) were modified with inorganic fillers affecting of crystalline phase of PLA matrix and experimentally developed plasticizer based on PLA-g-PEG copolymer. The results show noticeable changes in the PLA crystalline phase formation detected by using differential scanning calorimetry (Figure 1). Furthermore, the developed composites were tested on rheological, mechanical properties, hydrolytic stability and migration intensity. The developed composition showed promising applicability in rigid food packaging applications.
