Impact of epoxidized soy bean oil on thermomechanical properties of epoxy resin
Original language description
Epoxy resins are widely used materials whose basic precursors are prepared from crude oil. Due to restrictions the goal in many fields is to reduce implement of precursors prepared from non-renewable sources to produce various materials. Epoxidized oils are materials prepared from renewable sources (natural oils) whose functional groups had been modified to epoxy groups that can be cured with amines like common epoxies. Such systems are further generally fully compatible with other epoxy resins and can be thus mixed together in order to prepare novel epoxy systems where a crude oil-based precursor can be partially substituted by epoxidized oils from renewable sources. ln this work, effect of partial substitution of conventional epoxy resin by epoxidized soy bean oil on thermal properties of such epoxy resin has been investigated.
