Electromagnetic wave absorbing properties of polymer composites

  • Original language description

The topic is devoted to the development of microwave absorbers (MWAs) with a view to solving the problems of electromagnetic interference, electromagnetic compatibility, and protection of human beings from harmful effects of electromagnetic radiation. To this end, layered magnetodielectric MWAs that can absorb up to 90 % of incident electromagnetic wave in the operating frequency bands of microwave devices, 1-17 GHz, are developed. MWAs are fabricated on the basis of polymer magnetic composites that include a frequency selective surface (FSS) in the form of a doubly periodic grating of thin metal rings. An approximate theory and design procedure for these types of MWAs are proposed. As a result, several types of MWAs are obtained, for example, a low-frequency 3-mm-thick absorber with an operating frequency band of 1-2.7 GHz and a highfrequency 1.6-mm-thick absorber with an operating frequency band of 12.4-18 GHz.
