At first, the optimal range of pH, temperature and concentration of calcium ions in the enzyme solution was verified. Next, the problem of an accessibility of the adhesive for the enzyme was investigated. In typical situations, enzyme molecules have to penetrate the complex porous structure of paper in order to reach the adhesive layer. Several possibilities how to increase penetration rate of the enzyme solution through the paper were tested. All experiments were performed using Bacillus amyloliquefaciens ?-amylase (Sigma-Aldrich, A 6380, type II A).
