Social and Life Aspects of Roma Migration
Original language description
The article is aimed at describing and analyzing the factors which influence the migration of the Roma from the Slovak Republic to the Czech Republic. The study was made with the help of qualitative research strategy, questioning method and technique of biographic interview with specified thematic groups. The research set consisted of Roma females and males (N=12) who had come from the Slovak Republic to the Czech Republic in 2008-2018. The interviews were recorded on a recording device with the respondents' consent. The results were analyzed through open and axial coding in Atlas.ti program. The results showed that the main motivation to leave the initial location consisted in the vision of a better life and that the decisions were mostly impulsive. The results also show that the migrants face a number of problems, primarily financial ones. The Czech Republic constitutes a transit country from the migrants' perspective, but in view of financial problems and language barrier, it also becomes the country of final stay. After arriving, the migrants often find themselves in an adverse social situation which may lead to living on the street.
