Adaptive Optical Sensors – Their Calibration and Metrology
Original language description
The contribution is focused on dealing with problems associated with optical sensors used in positioning and width measurement of band materials during their automatic positioning in a technological process (e.g., tires production, sheet cold rolling). In many applications, the material light transparency influences measurement results and, if not appropriately addressed, can cause a complete degradation of results. An original method of material transparency learning to eliminate transparency issues is introduced in this article. After a short description of the basic principles of the usual optical sensors and introduction of the state of the art, new possibilities of optical sensor adaptation on the actual optical properties of measured materials are introduced and their applications are presented together with a description of methods used in calibration of designed sensors. Finally, testing equipment suitable for the testing and determination of applied sensor parameters is proposed and obtained experimental results are discussed. The results showed the ability of the sensors to solve the automatic material centering as well as the material width control of materials whose transparency is less than 90%.
