  • Original language description

Twelve species of coagulase-negative staphylococcus (CoNS) were isolated in 10 fish species in the Czech Republic, including cultured rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis), grayling (Thymallus thymallus), ornamental koi carp (Cyprinus carpio), cardinal tetra (Cheirodon axelrodi), cownose ray (Rhinoptera bonasus), black molly (Poecillia sphenops), guppy (Poecillia reticulata), wild Eurasian minnow (Phoxinus phoxinus) and roach (Rutilus rutilus). Five of the 12 species were isolated as pure cultures from infected fish (e.g. Staphylococcus capitis subsp. capitis, S. epidermidis, S. hominis subsp. hominis, S. lentus, S. pasteuri) while these together with the other staphylococcus spp. (S.capitis, , S. cohnii subsp. urealyticus, S. haemolyticus, S. petrasii subsp. pragensis, S. saprophyticus, S. wameri, S. xylosus) were isolated from co-infections in fish with bacterial, viral or parasitic infections.
