The possibilities of art-historical expertise and restorer methods of recognizing a painting using the example of two newly discovered pictures by František Karel Palko: original, replica, or forgery?
Original language description
Using the example of newly discovered pictures by F. K. Palko (Wroclaw 1724 ? Munich 1767), the essay demonstrates the need for restorer and archival research in order to obtain a deeper understanding of the character of the work (especially concerning author and workshop replicas and their forgeries) as well as to facilitate the study of workshop practice in the multiplication of requested types of pictures. The published paintings depict the half-lengths of St. John the Evangelist and St. Thomas and are replicas of the respective paintings of Palko's apostolic cycle from Vyšší Brod dating from after 1760.
